World Sustainability Day, recognised each year on 28 October, is a time to reflect on how the choices we make today shape the world we leave for future generations. It encourages individuals, businesses and communities to consider how we can protect natural resources, reduce environmental impacts and support a more sustainable and resilient future.
For Australia’s drinks industry, these challenges are particularly relevant. Climate change, water stewardship, packaging circularity, sustainable sourcing and responsible production all require long-term thinking, practical action and, increasingly, collaboration across organisational boundaries.
The Drinks Association Sustainability Council provides a forum for our industry to do just that, bringing members together to share knowledge, tackle common challenges and identify opportunities for collective action.
Oportunities to make a difference
This World Sustainability Day, The Drinks Association's Sustainability Council is encouraging organisations across Australia's drinks industry to consider how everyday business decisions can contribute to a more sustainable future.
1. Rethink packaging
Explore opportunities to reduce packaging waste, improve recyclability and support circular economy initiatives.
2. Look across your supply chain
Consider how improvements in transport, logistics, energy efficiency and resource management can reduce environmental impact.
3. Share knowledge and collaborate
Learn from the initiatives of other organisations, share successful approaches and identify opportunities to address common sustainability challenges.
The Sustainability Council recognises the importance of industry collaboration in addressing shared environmental challenges and supporting practical, measurable progress.
Together, we can turn individual actions into collective impact.
World Sustainability Day is a reminder that sustainability is not achieved through ambition alone. Every action matters and by working together, our industry can turn shared challenges into meaningful progress.
