Recognising International Men’s Day 2025

On 19 November, the Drinks Association is proud to recognise International Men’s Day for the first time, creating space for reflection on men’s health, social connection and the challenges that often go unspoken.

Why men’s health matters

Men’s health and wellbeing are a vital part of building healthier, more connected workplaces. When men feel supported – both mentally and socially – it benefits everyone. A culture that values open conversation and care helps boost performance, strengthen teams and foster a workplace where people feel seen and supported.

The statistics show why this conversation matters. According to the Men Do Talk research by Mentoring Men, one in four men have taken time off work to cope with mental health challenges and 31% say their mental load is affecting their job performance. Thirty-five per cent report career-related stress. These figures are a clear reminder that small actions can have a meaningful impact.

Georgia Lennon, CEO of the Drinks Association, said the initiative reflects the Association’s ongoing commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive industry.

“Recognising International Men’s Day is an important step in continuing the wellbeing conversation across our industry,” she said. “By encouraging men to talk more, connect more and look out for each other, we’re helping to build a culture where everyone can thrive.”

Small actions, meaningful impact

This year, the Drinks Association is encouraging everyone to take simple steps that make a difference.

Ideas to get involved include:

  • Hosting a group walk or yoga session
  • Sharing a book, podcast or thought-provoking article with colleagues
  • Facilitating a reflective session, art therapy or meditation
  • Organising a morning tea to check in with your team

Stephanie Shedden, Chair of the Gender Equity Workstream of the Embrace Difference Council, said creating space for these conversations helps strengthen understanding across the industry.

“Men’s wellbeing is part of the broader gender equity picture,” she said. “Recognising International Men’s Day gives us a chance to talk about mental health, connection and care in a way that supports everyone at work and beyond.”

International Men’s Day is a step towards normalising conversations about men’s wellbeing and contributing to a stronger, more supportive drinks industry for all.
